About us

A little bit about AHAA

The Appaloosa Horse Association of Alberta (AHAA) was started by a group of dedicated Alberta Appaloosa owners and breeders in 1991.

We are very proud to be an affiliated Regional Club of the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC), the international registry for Appaloosas.

Alberta is a large province with the highest number of Appaloosas in Canada, and as such, it is always a challenge to meet the needs of all of its members. The AHAA has a dedicated group of volunteers working hard to provide many events including approved horse shows, trail rides, and clinics. We also provide promotional, marketing, and social opportunities throughout the year.

We have a strong youth proponent to this organization, and are quite pleased to offer many opportunities for our youth. We always have a competitive youth membership that competes regionally, nationally and at the Appaloosa Youth World Championship. We are also proud to provide an Educational Scholarship for an AHAA member every year.

Our objectives

The objective of the AHAA shall be to co-ordinate the promotion and recognition of Appaloosa horses and their owners within the Province of Alberta. To assist in the achievement of this objective the AHAA shall:

  • promote the breeding of Appaloosa horses by maintaining a listing of Appaloosa horses available within Alberta;
  • promote the use of Appaloosa horses by assisting with the organizing of horse events through advertising as well as other promotional means;
  • establish and maintain a system of year end awards to recognize the achievements of
    members’ Appaloosa horses and riders’ performance at sanctioned horse events;
  • provide a mechanism to allow Appaloosa horse owners to bring to the attention of the
    ApHC, issues which impact on the development of the Appaloosa breed within the Province of Alberta.
  • encourage the interest of the Alberta youth in enjoying and riding the Appaloosa through education, recognition of achievement, and development of their abilities, leadership,
    and teamwork.
